What is Fantasy Walk?

Fantasy Walk is a creative variation on the fundraising walkathon that makes it possible for all - including those with Parkinson disease - to participate. The idea of Fantasy Walk was a grassroots fundraiser created in 1999 by Irv Popkin, an active member of our South Hills support group. Irv led the event every year until his passing this past February. He was lovingly known as the "Fantasy Walk Maven." This year, we have the honor of having his daughter, Debbie Popkin Rudoy, serve as the chair.

In past Fantasy Walks, we've visited the moon, the sandy beaches of Hawaii, the Great Wall of China and most recently took a walk through Steeler Country. This year, we will take a "Walk on the Wild Side."

By joining us at this year's Fantasy Walk, you will:

  • * Have a full day's admission to the Pittsburgh Zoo and PPG Aquarium**
  • * Enjoy an All American Cookout at the Water's Edge
  • * Hear Ron Donovan, field representative for Paws With A Cause, discuss the advantages of having an assistance dog
  • * Learn about and meet some of the zoo's resident animals with curator Henry Kacprzyk
  • * Raise money to support services for people with Parkinson disease and their families
  • * Enjoy a raffle full of "wild" items

**Fantasy Walk festivities begin at 1pm, but you are welcome to arrive early to enjoy the zoo!
